Look up to see June’s full strawberry moon, the Milky Way and multiple planets | CNN Science

CNN Science | Look up to see June’s full strawberry moon, the Milky Way and multiple planets

(CNN) — June’s full moon, nicknamed the strawberry moon, will shine brightly on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The moon will be at its fullest at 3:44 a.m. ET Wednesday but will still appear bright and low in the east after sunset on Tuesday, as well as low in the west opposite the sunrise on Wednesday morning, per EarthSky.

The summer solstice falls this month, occurring on June 20, which means that the sun typically appears higher in the sky and moon seems closer to the horizon because the celestial bodies are positioned on opposite sides of Earth.

But this will also be the lowest full moon visible from the Northern Hemisphere in decades due to a phenomenon called a major lunar standstill, according to EarthSky. The standstill, when the moon is at its northernmost or southernmost point, occurs because the moon’s orbit is slowly dragged around in an 18.6-year cycle by the gravitational pull of the sun. The phenomenon is referred to as a standstill because the moon appears to stop changing direction during this time, even though it’s still moving in orbit, according to the Griffith Observatory. read more

13 standout looks from the Tony Awards 2025 | CNN Style Fashion

Cynthia Erivo

CNN) — It may be off-season in Hollywood, but Broadway’s biggest names were on hand to deliver plenty of glamour at the 78th Annual Tony Awards.

Braving the rain, stars of the big stage arrived at New York’s historic Radio City Music Hall on Sunday in a series of silver, cream, ivory and champagne-colored embellished gowns, along with fittingly theatrical statement suiting.

US theater is having a moment: The 2024-25 Broadway season was the highest-grossing ($1.89 billion in revenue) and best-attended (14.7 million theatergoers) in history, according to the Broadway League. Theater’s boundaries with TV and film have also become increasingly porous, with George Clooney and “Succession” star Sarah Snook among this year’s high-profile Tony Award nominees.

The event’s red carpet has, in turn, become a major moment for stylists and fashion designers. Here are 13 standout looks.see more

CNN Sports/Tennis | Carlos Alcaraz wins Roland Garros, completing historic comeback from two sets down to defeat Jannik Sinner in men’s final

(CNN) — Carlos Alcaraz mounted an extraordinary comeback to win the men’s final at Roland Garros on Sunday, defeating world No. 1 Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2).

In the longest final in tournament history, the Spaniard demonstrated incredible resolve to fend off three championship points for Sinner in the fourth set and somehow go on to win in a fifth-set tiebreaker, the first ever time that any man has pulled off such a feat at Roland Garros, according to broadcaster TNT Sports.

Five and a half hours after he faced Sinner’s first serve of the match, Alcaraz faced the Italian’s last, playing a terrific passing shot down the line before dropping to the floor as much of the raucous crowd at Court Philippe-Chatrier celebrated a victory it would never forget. read more

Remember when Liz Hurley wore ‘that’ dress? | CNN Style

CNN Style | Remember when Liz Hurley wore ‘that’ dress?

(CNN) — Liz Hurley, who turns 60 on Tuesday, remains an icon of British style. After more than three decades in the spotlight, she still turns heads on the red carpet, runs her own beachwear line and was, just last year, named the “world’s sexiest woman” by Maxim magazine.

But it all began in 1994, when she made fashion history at the premiere of a movie she wasn’t even in.

This isn’t to say that “Four Weddings and a Funeral” wasn’t a big deal. The film grabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and became the highest-grossing British production of all time — a title it held for 15 years.

But the movie’s premiere will only be remembered for one thing: Hurley’s black Versace dress, riven with deep slits and seemingly held together by a string of novelty-sized gold safety pins.  read more

(CNN) — Coco Gauff claimed her second career grand slam singles title on Saturday, coming from behind to defeat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4 in a thrilling French Open women’s final.

The 21-year-old’s win, a repeat of her 2023 US Open victory, means she is the first American since Serena Williams in 2015 to triumph at Roland Garros, and only the third this century.

She is the also the youngest American to lift the Suzanne-Lenglen Cup since Serena Williams did so in 2002.

“I was going through a lot of things when I lost this final three years ago … so it means a lot to be here,” Gauff said afterward, becoming emotional in her post-match interview as she remembered her comprehensive loss to Iga Świątek in 2022.  read more

New York (CNN) — At the start of February, Randy Carr, the CEO of World Emblem, booked a plane ticket to the Caribbean.

President Donald Trump had just announced a 25% duty on Mexico and Canada – what would be the first of many tariffs on other countries. World Emblem, the world’s largest producer of clothing patches which counts the Department of Homeland Security, UPS, NHL, and Levi’s as customers, produces 65% of its patches in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

“It just came really fast and a lot harder than I expected,” said Carr of the tariffs. “The 25% tariffs were enough to say, this is nuts. We need to change this right now.”

While President Trump eventually limited his 25% tariff to goods that don’t comply with the US’s current free trade agreement with Mexico and Canada, USMCA, the uncertainty around trade was motivation enough to start moving his supply chain.

“The following week we were on a plane to… the Dominican Republic,” said Carr.  read more

CNN Style/Fashion | This ‘Sex and the City’ dress achieved cult status. But it has controversial origins

(CNN)Remember when Carrie Bradshaw of “Sex and the City” wore a Christian Dior newspaper-print dress? Bradshaw, the fashion-forward sex columnist, played by Sarah Jessica Parker in the television series, defined late 1990s and early 2000s lifestyle aspirations for Gen X women when she and her three friends dominated the small screen from 1998 to 2004. (The television series and sequel aired on HBO and Max, respectively, which share the same parent company as CNN: Warner Bros. Discovery.)

Cut on the bias and featuring a newspaper print, the now iconic outfit designed by John Galliano became a piece of fashion legend, courtesy of a scene from season three, episode 17, which saw Bradshaw wearing it while walking in slow motion through the traffic-lined streets of Manhattan. In those brief on-screen moments, the dress — which was from Dior’s ready-to-wear autumn-winter 2000 “Fly Girl” collection — assured cult status.  read more
