CNN | Miami Marlins cancel home opener after coronavirus outbreak, ESPN reports

(CNN) – The Miami Marlins’ home opener against the Baltimore Orioles set for Monday has been canceled due to a number of Marlins players and staff testing positive for Covid-19, according to multiple reports.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, eight players and two coaches have tested positive for the coronavirus, bring the total cases on the team to at least 14. This is the first game to be canceled this season.

CNN Politics | John Lewis’ final crossing provides a new chapter in the history of the Edmund Pettus Bridge

Washington, DC (CNN) – The late US Rep. John Robert Lewis made his final journey on Sunday across the famous bridge in Selma, Alabama, where the towering civil rights figure helped lead a march for voting rights in 1965 that came to be a key part of his legacy.

Following a short ceremony outside of Brown Chapel AME Church on Sunday, Lewis’ body traveled on a horse-drawn caisson through several blocks of downtown Selma to the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where Lewis’ flag-draped casket crossed. It was on that bridge that a 25-year-old Lewis and other marchers were met by heavily armed state and local police who attacked them with clubs, fracturing Lewis’ skull.  —more

CNN Business | Home sales jumped nearly 21% in June

After several months of plummeting sales caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the housing market came back to life in June, according to the National Association of Realtors.

Sales of previously owned homes jumped a record 20.7% from May, the largest month-over-month increase since NAR began tracking in 1968.

“Record low mortgage rates are no doubt helping to bring buyers to the market,” said Lawrence Yun, NAR’s chief economist. “But the inventory levels are shrinking, which could create a bottleneck for sales gains going forward.”  —more

Hamilton Wins for the 8th Time in Hungary

Mercedes-AMG’s Lewis Hamilton wins the FORMULA 1 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX 2020, this is his eighth time winning in Hungary.  Hamilton started on Pole for the 90th time.  Before the race started the Red Bull Racing Honda team had to do an emergency repair on Max Verstappen’s car that received damage after Verstappen left the track and hit a wall during warm up laps damaging his front left suspension.  The Red Bull pit crew did their magic with only seconds to spare before the start of the race, their efforts paid off in a big way with Verstappen finishing 2nd, in front of Mercedes-AMG’s Valtteri Bottas who finished 3rd after starting on the front row.  As the race started, Bottas had an indicator light go off on his dashboard that distracted and he did not get off to a good start.  Sebastian Vettel for Ferrari finished in the points while his teammate Charles Leclerc did not.  Due to track conditions, at the start of the race none of the drivers started on slicks, 18 of the drivers were on Intermediates (green) and 2 drivers started on Full Wets (blue).  By Lap 4 the track conditions had changed enough that all drivers that had not already done so came in for an early tire change to put on slicks.
