Susan Rice is the VP Biden needs | CNN Opinion

CNN Opinion | Susan Rice is the VP Biden needs

(CNN)  Joe Biden has a high-class problem. He has a short list of highly qualified women, who would all serve as excellent running mates.

But there is a strong case to be made for Susan Rice. For full disclosure, I have known Rice for more than a decade, going back to the first Obama campaign and the early days of the Obama White House. And four years ago, I would have bet my life savings against the odds that she would be on Joe Biden’s shortlist of running mates in 2020. I also would have felt comfort in knowing Hillary Clinton would be campaigning for her second term at this point. I can admit to being wrong.  —more—

CNN | Michelle Obama says she’s suffering from ‘low-grade depression’

(CNN) – Former First Lady Michelle Obama says she’s suffering from a “low-grade depression.” The reasons? The pandemic, race relations in the US and the political strife surrounding it all, she says.

“I’m waking up in the middle of the night because I’m worrying about something or there’s a heaviness,” Obama said in her “The Michelle Obama Podcast” on Wednesday. “I try to make sure I get a workout in, although there have been periods throughout this quarantine, where I just have felt too low.”

It’s a familiar feeling for many Americans.  —more

“I’m not against a vaccine and no doubt it will be important in the fight against coronavirus, and I’m hopeful for its development to help save lives,” he wrote. “However after watching the video, I felt it showed that there is still a lot of uncertainty about the side effects most importantly and how it is going to be funded.”

He signed off the statement by saying “I may not always get my posting right” but “I’m learning.”

F1 | Hamilton explains how mental ‘reset’ after Q2 spin enabled him to take record-breaking pole

Hamilton was on the back foot all through the first two segments of qualifying, as team mate Valtteri Bottas headed him in Q1 and Q2, while Hamilton’s Q2 spin while trying to make it through to the final part of the session on medium tyres seemed to confirm his struggles.

F1.com | Hamilton recovers from spin to take record seventh Silverstone pole

Reigning world champion Hamilton wasn’t too happy with the car after Friday practice and was unusually still making changes to his Silver Arrow ahead of qualifying. He later admitted those tweaks subsequently made the car worse, and you could believe it when he made a rare mistake in Q2, spinning at Luffield and dragging gravel onto the track to cause a red flag.

But as he has done so often in his illustrious career, Hamilton regrouped, zoned everything else out, and pieced together the fastest lap of the weekend to nail a track record and put pole position out of reach. In doing so, he also became the first driver to take seven poles at his home event.  —more

We need to address the digital divide causing an educational crisis | CNN Opinion

CNN Opinion | We need to address the digital divide causing an educational crisis

(CNN) – Millions of American students won’t be heading back to the classroom this fall, at least not full time. From Los Angeles to New York, remote learning will continue into the fall.

That leaves a staggering number of students at risk of falling behind or dropping out. Up to 30% of schoolchildren — as many as 16 million American kids — lack internet access or laptops for online learning, a study by Common Sense Media and the Boston Consulting Group warned.

This isn’t just a problem for this fall. Missing months of learning will have catastrophic effects down the line. Students who have lost foundational skills will have trouble keeping up when school finally resumes, and they’ll be at greater risk of being held back, dropping out or failing to enroll in college. —more

CNN | A landmark study shows what makes a successful relationship

Whether you’re finding a potential partner by swiping right on an app, or thumbing through stacks of biodata a la Netflix’s “Indian Matchmaking,” there may be some wisdom for you in the researchers’ findings.  —more
