Here’s how to retire long before your 60s | CNN BUSINESS | WealthCOACH |

CNN BUSINESS | WealthCOACH | | Here’s how to retire long before your 60s

There is no shortcut for saving money for retirement. But some people have found ways to do the hard work faster.

Rather than planning to retire in their 60’s, they turbo-charge savings, pare down spending and optimize investments to become financially independent and retire early — a process known as FIRE.

For Justin McCurry retirement came more than 30 years early. McCurry saved $1.3 million and retired nine years ago when he was 33 so he could spend more time traveling with his wife and three kids. But it took him years of careful planning and saving to get there.  -–read more—

CNN style Arts | The Somali-French art dealer bringing Black perspectives to Paris’ gallery scene

When Mariane Ibrahim opened her elegant, new three-story art gallery in Paris last September, she became one of the few Black gallerists to set up shop in the French capital and dedicate the space to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.

Located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, among other noted galleries and close to landmarks like the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre, the space has featured the otherworldly mixed-media figures of Haitian American artist M. Florine Démosthène and found-image collages by Afro Latino artist Clotilde Jiménez. In April, Ibrahim debuted the European show of Ghanaian painter Amoako Boafo, who captures the beauty of Black skin in swirling, lush brushstrokes.  –read more–

CNN health | Why do sleeping dogs look like they’re running? Experts weigh in

(CNN) – June seems to dream of pursuit. After the long-haired German shepherd settles down for a nap, her floofy, low-slung limbs often begin to twitch and kick. To her owners, she appears to be on the trail of some unseen prey.

“When she’s sleeping sometimes her paws are going aggressively — like, frantically — like she’s running on an invisible treadmill,” said owner Wudan Yan, who lives in Seattle.

“She’s dreaming, right?” Yan said. “She’s dreaming about chasing squirrels and bunnies.”  –read more–

If the thought of retiring your comfortable sweats and choosing a new outfit to leave the house in each morning is an intimidating prospect, you’re in good company. For the better part of the pandemic, I’ve lived in a pair of stretchy, soft wool trousers in the cooler months, switching allegiance in summer to a white linen dress that my brother-in-law dubbed “the ghost dress” (likening its so flowy, so oversized shape to that of a large bedsheet with a hole cut out for my head).

Now, many of us are readjusting to being back in an office — a prospect that may come with numerous challenges but perhaps none greater than one looming concern: What to wear?  –read more–

F1 | Verstappen wins inaugural Miami Grand Prix over Leclerc after late Safety Car drama

Max Verstappen won the first ever Miami Grand Prix, having pried the lead off Ferrari’s pole-sitter Charles Leclerc early in the race, and defended it in an enthralling late-race battle.

Red Bull’s reigning champion took P2 off Carlos Sainz into Turn 1 at the start, and soon began to close in on Leclerc. The Ferrari driver lost the lead to his rival on the main straight at the start of Lap 9 of 57 and pitted from mediums to hards on Lap 24, causing Verstappen to react with his stop two laps later. It seemed that Verstappen would cruise to victory in front of Miami Gardens’ marina…  –read more–

Why car shopping is so bizarre in the United States | CNN BUSINESS

CNN BUSINESS | Why car shopping is so bizarre in the United States

Bertha Benz drove around in her husband Karl’s creation, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, taking order from curious onlookers. (This print shows a slightly later model of the Patent Motorwagen being driven by a man.)

(CNN) – The way we buy cars in America is just weird.

Just think about it for a moment. When you want to buy a refrigerator, you don’t go to a Whirlpool store, then a Maytag store and a Bosch store. You go to an appliance store. And even if there is a store that only sells clothing from one company — like Gap, which only sells clothing from Gap — that store is owned and operated by Gap.

But when you want to buy a new car you have to go to different stores for different brands. The Ford store isn’t owned by Ford, though, and the Toyota store isn’t owned by Toyota. They’re owned by other companies, some big and some small, but very rarely are they owned by the company that has its name over the front door.  –read more–
