The School of Life presents: Forget finding happiness, instead find peace with anxiety | CNN health

CNN health | The School of Life presents: Forget finding happiness, instead find peace with anxiety

(CNN)  What most of us long for above all else is ‘security’, the sense that we are — at last — safe on the earth. We pin our hopes for security on a shifting array of targets: a happy relationship, a house, children, a good profession, public respect, a certain sum of money… When these are ours, we fervently believe, we will finally be at peace. We may mock the term ‘happily ever after,’ synonymous as it is with naive children’s literature but in practice, we do indeed tend to live as if we could one day, somewhere over the horizon, reach a place of rest, satisfaction and safety. —more

What will staying in a hotel look like in the near future? | CNN travel

CNN travel | What will staying in a hotel look like in the near future?

(CNN) — Goodbye, breakfast buffets and bellhop service. Hello, temperature screening and keyless check-in.

While pandemic-era policies are still being developed at hotels around the globe and will no doubt vary widely, it’s safe to say that guests will see big changes the next time they check in anywhere.

For the foreseeable future — until a vaccine, widely effective treatment or instantaneous testing for coronavirus is available — hotel stays are likely to be a stripped-down affair, particularly in higher-end hotels where personalized service and amenities have long been part of the draw, says Christopher Anderson, professor of business at Cornell University’s Hotel School in Ithaca, New York. —more

CNN Opinion | Why you need to wear the damn mask

(CNN) Go for a walk, visit any open establishment or public space, and you will note a disconcerting phenomenon: People without masks.

There is a pandemic. Tens of thousands of Americans are dead because of Covid-19, a disease that spreads in droplets that are expelled by infected humans, including as they talk or cough, and whether they show symptoms or not.  —more

The US should be a leader in the global fight against Covid-19 | CNN Opinion

CNN Opinion | The US should be a leader in the global fight against Covid-19

(CNN) Americans are staring down an unprecedented crisis. We’ve already lost more than 71,000 of our fellow citizens. Millions of families live in fear and uncertainty every second. And large swaths of our workforce are losing their jobs each week.

Together, we face a common, invisible enemy: the novel coronavirus, Covid-19.

As two former US Senate majority leaders, we didn’t always see eye to eye during our time together in Congress, but today, we certainly agree on at least two things: America must lead the rest of the world to defeat Covid-19. And if we take our eye off the ball, China will try to exploit this crisis to its own gain. —more

If you’re hitting a wall, you’re not alone | CNN Opinion

CNN Opinion | If you’re hitting a wall, you’re not alone

(CNN) – Are you losing your mind in quarantine? Because I am losing my mind in quarantine.

It can feel trite, even crude, to talk about our own discomforts, frustrations and longings in the midst of a pandemic that has infected more than three million people worldwide and killed more than 200,000 including nearly 60,000 in the United States, with numbers climbing. Across the globe, families are grieving friends, family and community members. Husbands, wives, children, parents and partners are saying goodbye via iPad, unable to hold a loved one’s hand in their final moments. It’s a grim, ghastly time.  —more

CNN health | How to clean your bathroom to protect against coronavirus

(CNN) – With nearly all kids out of school in the United States and in many other places around the world, and large numbers of workers telecommuting, many houses are more crowded than usual.

And bathrooms are perhaps the one crucial point in the house where all humans — and therefore microbes — pass through. So during the present pandemic, keeping your toilets, sinks, counters and showers as germ-free as possible is key to keeping you and your family healthy.  —more

CNN | They won the fight against coronavirus. Here’s what life looks like on the other side

(CNN) – Cookie Villarreal was finally home. She had beaten the novel coronavirus but she couldn’t get dressed by herself or even raise her arms to brush her hair.

“By the grace of God I was able to get off (the ventilator),” said the 69-year-old woman from Lorain, Ohio.

Villarreal is among thousands of people who have survived after contracting Covid-19. As of Thursday, estimates indicate that more than 710,000 people have recovered from Covid-19 worldwide, according to data collected by John Hopkins University. The actual figure is likely to be higher because the data cover only confirmed cases.  —more

Bill Gates explains how the United States can safely ease coronavirus restrictions | CNN Business

CNN Business | Bill Gates explains how the United States can safely ease coronavirus restrictions

New York (CNN Business)The ability for parts of the United States to safely and effectively begin to lift coronavirus restrictions will depend on the country’s capacity to aggressively test for and trace new cases of the virus, Bill Gates told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria Sunday.

His comments come as several US states prepare to ease social distancing and stay-at-home restrictions this week, despite warnings from health researchers that no state should reopen before May 1. Meanwhile, the total number of reported coronavirus cases in the United States is nearing 1 million, and more than 54,000 Americans have died.  —more
