CNN BUSINESS | GameStop cashes in on Reddit surge with big stock sale

New York (CNN Business) – GameStop shares have gone ballistic this year, surging more than 800% thanks to love from Reddit fans betting on a turnaround for the video game retailer. Now, GameStop has cashed in with a sale of more than $550 million in stock.

Shares of GameStop (GME) soared about 7% Tuesday on the news of the stock sale.

GameStop announced earlier this month that it planned to sell as much as 3.5 million shares. The company said Tuesday that it will use the proceeds from the offering to continue investing in its transformation into a more online-focused retailer, and to strengthen its balance sheet.  —read more; watch—

CNN BUSINESS | Wall Street’s losses on Archegos just topped $10 billion

London (CNN Business) – Losses caused by the collapse of US hedge fund Archegos have topped $10 billion.

Swiss bank UBS (UBS) revealed on Tuesday that it lost $774 million from last month’s implosion of Archegos Capital Management, a bigger hit than many analysts expected. The announcement came as Japan’s Nomura (NMR) said it would book losses of $2.9 billion from Archegos, a sharp increase from its initial estimate of $2 billion.  —read more; watch—

Home prices are setting new records as buyers scramble for an accepted offer amid a continuing inventory crunch.

The median sale price was a record high $329,100 in March, according a report from the National Association of Realtors. It was the highest median price since NAR began tracking in 1999. CNN BUSINESS | Police say no one was in driver’s seat in fatal Tesla crash

New York (CNN Business) – Two passengers were killed in a crash of a Tesla Model S on Saturday in which there was no one sitting in the driver’s seat, according to police.

The crash in the Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, killed a person in the front passenger seat and one in the rear seat of the car, according to Constable Mark Herman, the head of the Harris County police precinct that responded to the crash.

“I can tell you our investigators are certain no one was in the driver’s seat at the time of the crash,” he told CNN Monday.  —read more—

(CNN) – Wednesday marks the fifth anniversary of the death of musical icon Prince, and the world has not felt the same since he left us.

Nowhere does that feel more true than in the city he both loved and helped to put on the map, Minneapolis.

Racial strife existed in the city long before the murder of George Floyd — a fellow Black man who also adored Minneapolis. But the trial of the police officer who caused his death, coupled with police recently killing another Minnesota Black man, Daunte Wright, have heightened racial tensions and attracted a global spotlight.
