(CNN) – A Rochester, New York, police investigator has been suspended with pay after he was seen on surveillance video pushing a Black EMT and handcuffing her at a hospital early last week, according to Carlos Alvarado, a spokesperson for the police department.

Police announced the suspension earlier this week, updating a statement Rochester Police Chief David Smith made last week that called the July 11 incident “deeply concerning” and said he has “high expectations for all members of the Rochester Police Department.”  –read more

CNN health | Think more quickly as you age by boosting exercise and mental activities, study says

Adding brisk walking or biking to weekly activities boosts brain speed in women, a new study found.

(CNN) – Keeping your body and brain fit has long been a prescription for better mental health as you age. A new study has now revealed that women’s mental processing speed may actually benefit more than men from a boost of exercise, such as brisk walking or biking for at least 15 minutes a week.

A delay in the brain’s processing speed is one of the key aspects of cognitive aging. Being able to think more quickly helps with planning, problem-solving, staying focused on tasks and the ability to easily engage in conversations with others.  –read more–

CNN politics | White House touts 1 million affordable broadband program sign-ups

(CNN) – Vice President Kamala Harris is set to announce Thursday that 1 million American households have signed up for broadband internet credits through the Affordable Connectivity Program — a provision of the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed last year — since the introduction of GetInternet.gov in May.

White House officials are calling it an important milestone and a concrete example of the administration’s efforts to lower costs for Americans amid high inflation. It will take some time for many of the other infrastructure projects funded by the bipartisan bill — new roads and bridges, for example — to come to full fruition due to planning and approval processes and getting shovels in the ground. But the connectivity program is a rare effort yielding nearly immediate and tangible benefits, a critical win the administration can tout ahead of midterm elections this November.  –read more–

Paris (CNN) — Summer is in full swing in Paris and the entrance square to the Louvre is busy with vendors selling water or Eiffel Tower souvenirs. Among them, US tourist Chris Walkley is enjoying his first visit to France, taking selfies with his girlfriend by the art museum’s glass pyramid.

“Paris definitely lived up to its reputation,” says Walkley, from Boston. “Food’s been great. Everyone’s been very hospitable.”

For Walkley, traveling to France has been a symbol of getting his life back to normal after two years of restrictions and disruptions caused by the pandemic. “I feel like things are back on track,” he adds with a smile.

For France, Walkley’s presence is a symbol of optimism.  –read more–
