In June 2018, Senator Chuck Grassley (Iowa) had a committee meeting, with a main focus on the EB-5 program.  During the hearing there is a reference that the minimum investment for immigrants to participate in the program will go from $500K to $1M.  In my opinion, raising the minimum will have a very negative effect on the program, by limiting the number of potential immigrants that can participate in the EB-5 program.

One of the other main points made at the hearing is that there have been occasions where some developers have abused the EB-5 funds invested by immigrants seeking their visa and spent that money on personal items.  Unfortunately, Senator Grassley viewed this as a reason to look at revamping the entire program instead of seeing it as just a few bad apples.  It would be analogous to completely revamping the Senate because a few senators were found to be abusing their office, instead of dealing with the abusers.

The EB-5 program, started in 1990, has been running successfully and should not be revamped.
