Greenville, South Carolina: This small city in the Upstate makes a great base for exploring the mountains of the Carolinas. Greenville is only a 2.5-hour drive from Atlanta, which has the world’s busiest passenger airport.

CNN) — The highly anticipated, jam-packed summer travel season proved to be challenging, to put it nicely.

Makes you yearn for a nice autumn vacation, huh? Perhaps a little less crowded, maybe less expensive, definitely less hot (in the Northern Hemisphere). And hopefully less chaotic.

Factoring in transit costs, a strong US dollar (great for American tourists overseas, not so great for everyone else), the weather, scenery and special events, here are some suggestions of the best places to go in the fall of 2022 around the world:  –read more–

Target just went from great to bad to ugly. But the worst may be over | CNN BUSINESS

CNN BUSINESS | Target just went from great to bad to ugly. But the worst may be over

New York (CNN Business) – Target just demonstrated how quickly things can change in the world of retail, posting a terrible quarter after nearly two years of soaring profits and record revenue growth. But the big box retailer is promising things will change in the other direction just as fast.

Target was widely seen as one of the winners of the pandemic, gaining new customers as shoppers not wanting to go into brick-and-mortar stores were drawn to its growing curbside pickup and home delivery.

But after a disappointing fiscal first quarter when profits fell 40%, Target just had an even worse second quarter. Profits plunged 90% compared to a year earlier.  –read more–

CNN health | How to ease the symptoms of sciatica

(CNN) – Often associated with low back pain, sciatica tends to be more of a pain in the butt — and sometimes also the leg. That’s because the pain travels along the sciatic nerves, the longest nerves in your body. Each sciatic nerve runs bilaterally from the base of your spine through the deep muscles of your buttocks and down the back of a leg.

In the preceding two articles in this series, I helped you understand more about the possible origins of your back pain and how to begin finding relief through exercise. Now we focus on assisting those who are suffering specifically with sciatica.  –read more–

Opinion: Why it’s time to stop privileging marriage in America | CNN Opinion

CNN Opinion | Opinion: Why it’s time to stop privileging marriage in America

(CNN) – It pays to be married. According to new data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and reported in the Wall Street Journal, the financial gap between married couples and single people aged 25-34 has widened into a chasm, with married couples worth nearly nine times as much as singles. That’s a big jump from 2010, when marrieds were still worth four times as much as singles.

Some of this is just math: Households with two adults in them have more resources. They will be able to split the cost of rent and groceries and more easily qualify for a mortgage or save for a down payment on a house.  –read more–

CNN BUSINESS | The Black homeownership rate is now lower than it was a decade ago

(CNN) – Even as home prices have skyrocketed during the pandemic, homeownership continues to grow. But the rate of home buying has not increased at the same pace for all Americans, according to a new report from the National Association of Realtors.

More Americans own a home now than in any year following the Great Recession, with the US homeownership rate climbing to 65.5% in 2020, according to NAR. That’s up 1.3% from 2019, the largest annual increase on record.

But Black homeownership, at 43.4%, remains lower than it was a decade ago. And it is nearly 30 percentage points behind the White homeownership rate of 72.1%. Meanwhile, the Hispanic homeownership rate rose to an all-time high, reaching over 50% for the first time, and the Asian homeownership rate is 61.7%.  –read more–
