Celebrities have traditionally flocked to the Venice Film Festival each September, arriving at the historic Palazzo del Cinema — sometimes by boat — for premieres and the waiting cameras. But with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFRA) locked in industrial disputes over residuals, higher wages and artificial intelligence, among other things, actors have this year been prohibited from promoting their movies.  –read more–

Washington (CNN) — FBI Director Christopher Wray warned Thursday that the number of Russian spies operating inside the United States is “still way too big,” despite efforts to kick them out. 

“The Russian traditional counterintelligence threat continues to loom large,” Wray said during public remarks at the Spy Museum in Washington. “The Russian intelligence footprint, and by that I mean intelligence officers, is still way too big in the United States and something we are constantly bumping up against and trying to block and prevent and disrupt in every way we can.”  –read more–

CNN World | ‘Dinner plate sized’ device found inside woman’s abdomen 18 months after cesarean birth

(CNN) — A surgical tool the size of a dinner plate was found inside a woman’s abdomen 18 months after her baby was delivered by cesarean section, according to a report by New Zealand’s Health and Disability Commissioner.

An Alexis retractor, or AWR, which can measure 17 centimeters (6 inches) in diameter, was left inside the mother’s body following the birth of her baby at Auckland City Hospital in 2020.
