(CNN) — Visitors to European galleries with an interest in pioneering women artists will have plenty of choice this summer, with a series of new exhibitions featuring some of the biggest names in 20th century art.

Fantastical sculptures and dreamlike drawings by the late French artist Louise Bourgeois, famed for her towering spiders, are on display at the Courtauld Gallery in London. Elsewhere in Spain, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is hosting a solo exhibition of American collagist and conceptual artist Barbara Kruger. And fellow American artist Cindy Sherman, known for her chameleonic self-portraiture, is the focus of a solo show at Hauser & Wirth Menorca, on the picturesque Balearic Islands.  –read more–

CNN Business | Trump’s victory over PBS and NPR ‘bias’ will be ‘devastating’ for rural areas, station leaders say

(CNN) — Public television stations will be “forced to make hard decisions in the weeks and months ahead,” PBS CEO Paula Kerger said Thursday, after lawmakers advanced a bill that cancels all the federal funding for the network and for NPR.

Radio and TV stations may need to lay off staffers and cut back on programming. Popular shows like “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” may reach fewer people. Big Bird of “Sesame Street” fame isn’t going away, but the financial system that supported him for decades is being stripped away.

House Republicans passed the spending cuts bill shortly after midnight Friday. Once President Trump signs the bill into law, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s budget will be zeroed out for the first time since 1967, back when television stations still broadcast in black and white.  –read more–

During a meeting of Ferry Porsche and the then US importer Max Hoffman in 1952 in New York City, Max Hoffman mentioned to Dr. Ing. Ferry Porsche that all the major car brands in the world have their own crest. “Why not Porsche, too?” he asked. Then Ferry, it is said, reached for a napkin and began drawing the first sketches of the crest. Ferry wanted it to be a seal of quality for the type 356.
