CNN travel | The least-visited national parks in the United States

(CNN) — There are more than 420 sites in the US National Park System, but only 63 carry the headliner — capital N, capital P — “National Park” title.

The most visited of those, Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee, welcomed a record-setting 14.2 million recreation visits in 2021. Zion, Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon are other top visitor draws. See full lists of the most popular National Park Service sites here.

But what about the least-visited headliners? Parks that might be especially wild or hard to reach but also uncrowded and largely undiscovered. Let’s take a peek at those.

CNN travel | World’s 50 greatest places of 2022, according to TIME magazine

(CNN) — Get your credit card out and your favorite booking platforms at the ready: US magazine and news website TIME has just released its list of the world’s 50 greatest places of 2022.

The list was compiled by its international network of correspondents and contributors, and, says TIME in a statement, “with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.”

The 50 destinations to make the cut include both classic big-hitters and less-explored spots, but what unites them is that they are “thriving, growing and changing,” says TIME, “charting a path to economic recovery” and “investing in sustainability.”  –read more–

(CNN) – On a Saturday afternoon, August 12, 2017, Tadrint “Tay” Washington drove to downtown Charlottesville to visit a friend. It was a hot and muggy day in central Virginia. Washington had just graduated from an EMT course and done well on her practical exam. Just one written exam remained before she could officially make good on her promise to herself to find a job she was passionate about and that could provide a good life for her then-seven-year-old daughter.

Washington’s friend wasn’t home, so she got back into her car and headed for home. The regular route was blocked; a detour pushed her further downtown. It was crowded, way more than usual, she thought. Another detour.  –read more–  

CNN BUSINESS | Starbucks asks labor board to halt mail-in union ballots

New York (CNN Business) – Starbucks is requesting a suspension of mail-in ballots at unionization votes currently going on at its stores across America. The coffee chain is accusing National Labor Relation Board employees in Kansas and elsewhere of misconduct in handling these mail-in votes, actions it said has skewed results in favor of unionization.

The NLRB workers in question “engaged in highly improper, systemic misconduct involving Starbucks and Workers United,” the company’s general counsel wrote in a letter to the NLRB. Starbucks said an NLRB whistle-blower alerted the company to the alleged misconduct.  –read more–

When she was younger, she would fake a call to her father or boyfriend while at a mechanic in the hopes it would help her avoid overpaying for repairs. Serena Williams, one of the greatest tennis players of all time, announced Tuesday that she will “evolve away from tennis” after this year’s US Open.

“There comes a time in life when we have to decide to move in a different direction,” Williams posted on Instagram with a picture of herself on the cover of Vogue with the title Serena’s Farewell.

Williams, 40, has dominated women’s tennis for much of her career. She has won 23 grand slam singles titles, which is the most in the Open era and one behind the all-time record held by Margaret Court. She has also won four Olympic gold medals and over $94.5 million in prize money.  –read more– 

bleacher report | Over 650 Black NFL Retirees Have Neurological Tests Rescored After Court Ruling

Around 300 former Black NFL players are now eligible for financial compensation from the league’s $1 billion concussion settlement after their neurological tests were rescored to eliminate adjustments to test scores based on race.

Maryclaire Dale of the Associated Press reported Friday the cases of over 650 former players were reevaluated based on the updated test scores, which showed 51 qualified for compensation for advanced dementia and nearly 250 were eligible for financial support and further testing after showing signs of early dementia.  –read more–
