F1 | Bottas holds off Verstappen and Perez to claim first win of 2021 in damp Turkish GP

Valtteri Bottas won an engrossing Turkish Grand Prix that was run in damp conditions, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and his team mate Sergio Perez completing the podium.

Light rain peppered the track well before the race and while the rain stopped, conditions called for intermediate tyres throughout.

Bottas led the race away from pole, his Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton having started 11th thanks to his 10-place engine related penalty, while Verstappen followed the Finn. By Lap 11, Hamilton was up into the top five having passed Pierre Gasly. The defending champion would be promoted to fourth when Sergio Perez pitted on Lap 38.  -- read more--

F1 | Bottas claims pole for Turkish GP as fastest driver Hamilton takes grid penalty

Lewis Hamilton went fastest in qualifying for the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix but will take a 10-place grid penalty for his Mercedes engine change, meaning P2 qualifier Valtteri Bottas will start on pole position on Sunday ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

The 100% risk of rain predicted ahead of the session manifested in the form of light drizzle in Q1 but the clouds soon dissipated and the track matured to see Lewis Hamilton take top spot in that session, just 0.007s ahead of Max Verstappen. Q2 saw Hamilton repeat the feat, and he delivered again in the final session with an ultimate effort of 1m22.868s – a new track record at Istanbul Park.

Bottas was 0.130s off in P2, which will be pole when Hamilton's engine penalty demotes him to P11 – while Verstappen was 0.328s off top spot in third.  --read more--

F1 | What tyres will the teams and drivers have for the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix?

The Turkish Grand Prix returns for the 2021 season and Pirelli have announced that they will bring tyres that are one step softer than in last year’s race at Istanbul Park.

Formula 1’s second visit to Turkey in two years comes after the Turkish GP’s nine-year absence from the F1 calendar. Last year, Lewis Hamilton clinched his seventh title in Turkey; this year he’s just two points ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen as the two battle for the 2021 title.

Pirelli have allocated C2 (hard, x2 sets), C3 (medium, x3 sets) and C4 (soft, x8 sets) compounds for the race weekend on October 8-10, which is one stop softer than it was in last year’s November race at Istanbul. Pirelli cited a wealth of data compared to 2020, and better surface grip as the track has been cleaned with a high-pressure water jet – with higher temperatures expected this October compared to last November.  --read more--
