(CNN) – This season, Lewis Hamilton’s fight has been as much off the track as on it.

The 35-year-old has been using his platform as the world’s best Formula One driver and one of the most famous athletes on the planet to fight for racial equality and justice, in particular through his support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

Earlier this month, Hamilton stood atop the podium after victory at the Tuscan Grand Prix with the words “ARREST THE COPS WHO KILLED BREONNA TAYLOR” emblazoned on his shirt.  —more—
